Citadel 1986 Release

25 March 2016

I've just uploaded the full version of Citadel 1986, a retro platform game inspired by my favourite Commodore 64 games. It's suitable for all, although it may appeal more to retro gamers of a certain age

To play, use the cursor keys and pretty much any other key to jump/swim. You can also use your gamepad, there's a config screen available from the options menu.

Development went smoothly but the release was delayed for a few months by a bout of 'what-is-the-point', something a lot of developers must get when they realise there's over a billion apps on the App Store. After some reflection I've decided that's there's no point in not releasing it.

I'll also be releasing this game on Steam Green Light, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes

So yeah, if you're reading this, try it out and let me know what you think.

Pixel Art Animatronics

16 March 2016

A quick work in progress video, creating some pixel art monsters for Citadel 1986. I've not done this sort of thing since the Amiga days. It's nice not being restricted to 32 colors, although I do miss DPaint a little

Some things are better left alone, although Clockwork Pixels on Twitter is most definately not one of them. Here's a few animatronic nightmares to avoid in my next game, Citadel 1986.
